himeji castle 姫路城

also known as the 白鷺城, this is a masterpiece of what people call the Japanese Rensaissance. Built around 1580, it major patron (who built the existing structure), was hideyoshi toyotomi (豊臣秀吉). Incidently, Toyotomi was the first Japanese ruler after the age of Civil Wars, and basically united Japan.
